Truth and false, and our current activity

The time of people’s judgment has drawn near, yet they are heedlessly turning away. They neglect to obey Allah and His Messenger. And they turn away from the teachings of the Messenger of Allah. He (peace be upon him) has taught his ummah many things to succeed in this world and the hereafter. One of them is the essential thing: to tell the truth and forsake lying. In these two matters, people put their interests first and devalue the words of Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him). Indeed, Islam guides every Muslim in what is right.

So I will present to you some vital information about truth and falsehood. At the same time, I will highlight some of the sayings of Allah and His Messenger and our current activity. So let’s first know the importance of speaking the truth.

Truth and the importance of speaking it

It is the best way to achieve success in this world and the hereafter. It helps people to get a lot of benefits. Allah loves those who speak the truth. He protects the truthful people from danger unimaginably. To speak the truth defends people from sinning. Usually, the truthful ones are harmed by the wicked in this world, but they will benefit greatly in the Hereafter. In this regard, Allah Ta’ala said:

“This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness. For them are gardens (in Paradise) beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them, and they with Him. That is the great attainment.” [Surah Al-Ma’idah, verse 119]

And Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Leave what makes you in doubt; return to what does not make you in doubt. Indeed, the truth is tranquility, and falsehood is doubt.” [Jami at-Tirmidhi, Hadith No. 2518]

Truth, and good consequences of it

Allah Ta’ala said: “Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and the fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so – for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.” [Surah Al-Ahzab, verse 35]

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire (Hell), and a man keeps on telling lies, at one point, he is written as a liar before Allah.” [Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 6094]

The biggest lie

The biggest lie in the world is lying about Allah and His Messenger. To preach in their name what they did not say. For example, if one says that Allah or His Messenger has spoken of this good deed, but Allah and His Messenger did not say about it, it is also considered slander against Allah and His Messenger. In this regard, Allah Ta’ala said:

“And when they commit an immorality, they say, We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has ordered us to do it. Say, Indeed, Allah does not order immorality. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know?” [Surah Al-A’raf, verse 28]

“Say, Have you seen what Allah has sent down to you of provision (Rijk), which you have made (some) lawful and (some) unlawful?” Say, “Has Allah permitted you (to do so), or do you invent (something) about Allah?” [Surah Yunus, verse 59]

“So who is more unjust than one who lies about Allah and denies the truth when it has come to him? Is not a residence in Hell for the disbelievers?” [Surah Az-Zumar, verse 32]

And Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever (intentionally) ascribes to me what I have not said, then (surely) let him occupy his seat in Hell-fire (i.e., he will enter Hell).” [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 109]

Lying with people

It is a grave sin. And it is one of the signs of hypocrites. In this regard, Allah Ta’ala said: “When the hypocrites come to you (O MuḼammad), they say, ‘We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah.’ And Allah knows that you are His Messenger, and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars.” [Surah Al-Munafiqun, verse 1]

And Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “The signs of a hypocrite are three: 1. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie. 2. Whenever he promises, he always breaks it (his promise ). 3. If you keep something as a trust with him, he betrays it.” [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 33]

Lying to make people laugh

It is also a big sinful act. But people don’t care about it. In this regard, Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Woe (Severe punishment) to him who tells things, speaking falsely, to make people laugh thereby. Woe to him! Woe to him.” [Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith No. 4990]

Lying during trading

It is also a heinous sin. People are very careless about this too. In this regard, Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:

“The seller and the buyer have the right to keep or return goods as long as they have not parted or till they part. If both the parties spoke the truth and described (the defects and qualities of the product), they would be blessed in their transaction. And if they told lies or hid something, then the blessings of their transaction would be lost.” [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 2079]

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) also said: “The Muslim is the brother of another Muslim, and it is not permissible for a Muslim to sell his brother the product in which there is a defect, without describing it to him.” [Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith No. 2246]

Giving false testimony

It is also a grave sin. People commit this sin more and more for the sake of their interests and the sake of money. In this regard, Anas bin Malik (R) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) talked about the major sins, or he was asked about the major sins. So he said: “Associating anyone with Allah, killing of a person, disobedience to parents. Should I not inform you about the gravest of the major sins? and (in this connection) he said: False utterance or false testimony.” [Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 160]

Swearing falsely

It is also a terrible sin. And it is also a special nature of the hypocrites. There is a severe punishment for this sin in the Hereafter. In this regard, Allah Ta’ala said: “Have you not considered those who make allies of a people with whom Allah has become angry? They are neither of you nor of them, and they swear to untruth while they know. Allah has prepared for them a severe punishment. Indeed, it was evil that they were doing.” [Surah Al-Mujadila, verse 14 – 15]

And Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever swears falsely to grab the property of a Muslim (or of his brother), Allah will be angry with him when he meets Him.” Allah then revealed in confirmation of the above statement:–‘Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their (own) oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter, and Allah will not speak to them, not look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them; and they will have a painful punishment.'” [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 6659]

The result of truth and falsehood

Truth saves people, and falsehood destroys them. Many times, people tell many lies to hide the truth. As a result, the burden of their sins continues to grow. The task of truthful people is to stay with truthful people and stay away from liars to protect themselves from getting involved in big sins like lying.

Because of telling the truth, maybe Allah Ta’ala can send temporary danger to His servants to test them. But after that, Allah will surely give him a good reward. And because of lying, even if one’s interest is gained, then there is himself-harm later. Lying will become his habit, and his heart will harden. As a result, he will no longer be interested in doing good deeds. His sin will continue to increase day by day. At some point, it will be very difficult to return to obedience to Allah and His Messenger. Eventually, he will become a companion of Satan and will be suitable to go to Hell.

Our Dua

May Allah Ta’ala grant us the grace to always speak the truth, to be with the truthful people. And may He forgive us all our past sins. Ameen.
